There are two topics that will affect your life whether you are interested in them or not: money and health . - Morgan Housel, The Psychology of Money

About Us...

Finance and money handling can be tough, especially if it seems like your money runs out before your month or you're just not sure what to do! This can be stressful, overwhelming and feel like your finances are out of control! This stress and uncertainty can be caused by underlying behaviors or beliefs about money that you may not even be aware of, a lack of education about money and how to handle it, or other similar factors.

Good News! We can help! The Fundamentals of Money can be taught to individuals, families, employees or groups and instilled in and passed along to kids. It starts by an awareness of where you currently are, financially. Sometimes we are too busy or too afraid to look at our financial situation. But in order to create a plan, we have to know where we are starting from. Once we know that, we need to choose where we want to go based on what is important to us and in accordance with our priorities and values. We all have different priorities, perhaps around our family, hobbies, work, charities, travel, dreams, retiring early, etc. Once we know where we are, we can create a plan to get where we want to be. Understanding our values and what is important to us and why, and focusing on that provides the long-term motivation to change our behaviors.  That allows us to develop the self-belief that we can make those changes.  Finally, we have to take the responsibility to improve our finances by following the plan we have created.  This may involve making choices on what to spend money on based upon our values and priorities, and cutting less important expenditures, or picking up a side gig.

Though the plan may not go exactly as expected (they rarely do!), by focusing on progress instead of perfection, goals can be achieved through hard work, dedication and perseverance.  Fundamentals of Money offers guidance and encouragement for this journey!

My name is Shannan.  I help people decrease financial stress and improve financial stability through intentional money management.  I have always been interested in money and finances, following blogs and reading books. Then I realized I could use my passion to help others!

In addition to the financial information that I’ve been consuming for years in blogs and books, I have also completed Ramsey Solutions' FINANCIAL COACH MASTER TRAINING to be better able to provide additional and specific information for a wide variety of financial situations. This training, combined with my graduate certificate in CONFLICT MANAGEMENT from Boise State University, uniquely positions me to help people understand and communicate about (money can be a BIG cause of conflict in relationships!) and improve their finances!

Financial mindset and success is not dependent upon your income or bank account. People of ALL income levels struggle with different aspects of financial management and behavior including spending, debt, credit, saving, planning, budgeting, retirement, and unrealized attitudes about money that prevent them from making progress. We can help you

P.S. Someone asked about the logo...the little pink piggy bank...!

Morgan Housel, the author of "The Psychology of Money" says, " There are two topics that will affect your life whether you are interested in them or not:  money and health." Housel also says "...doing well with money has a little to do with how smart you are and a lot to do with how you behave."   These statements say that we all have to deal with money, and how well we do that has little to do with how smart we are.

Since some people are intimidated by personal finance.  The unassuming little pink piggy bank is meant to remind that

     1) Improving your personal finances doesn't require you to be super smart!

     2) Fundamentals of Money is approachable!

     3) Improvements in personal finance is possible!

     3) Its good to have a financial cushion in savings (or your piggy bank)!

At Fundamentals of Money, we believe that improving your financial position is something that everyone can do, and want to be thought of as approachable.  Thus, the little pink piggy bank!
